Have a Pet Safe Christmas

Christmas is such a fun and special time of year, but it can also be a dangerous time for our Pets.

Now we aren’t here to be party poopers!

We love this special time of year its a chance to catch up with family, have a rest, but for our pet’s it can feel differently

Suddenly, their routine is tipped upside down, their diet sometimes changes – extra treats, items off the table, there are unknown guests and children who are just beyond excited at the thought of Father Christmas’s arrival.

We are here to share our top tips for having an enjoyable pet-safe Christmas.

Top tip to keep your pets safe this Christmas

  • Keep foods that aren’t pet friendly out of reach from your pets.
  • Provide your pets a safe space away from everything.
  • Try not to give them to many treats/unusual foods to avoid tummy upset.
  • Try not to upset their meal times too much, again to avoid tummy upset.
  • Ensure your pets are behind a closed door when opening the front door to guests.
  • Make sure your dog has a Collar & Tag on at all times.
  • Ensure your pets Chip details are up to date.
  • Provide them with calming enrichment activities.
  • Be aware unexpected fireworks are known to be an issue this time of year.
  • Have your Vets phone number and Opening hours to hand.
  • Put presents/children’s toys out of reach of your animals.

Pets can display unusual/unwanted behaviour during this period.

Be mindful that during this unusual period of routine change and emotional change, our animals can act out of character, as Trainers, this is when we receive a lot of calls of “out of the Blue” bites/unwanted behaviour. – in fact, Bite’s are very rarely out of the blue our animals do usually give a lot of subtle warning signs it’s important as caregivers to educate ourselves on these subtle Body Language signs and put preventative measures in place to ensure everyone stays safe, and has an enjoyable Christmas.
